On October 22 and 23, 2008, The Travel Channel taped a segment of "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" in Helvetia. The segment is expected to air in the Spring of 2009. The topic was game animals. A deer was stuffed with vegetables, wrapped in foil, and roasted overnight in a pit of hot coals. Local residents Henry Rice, Willie Lehman, and Ben Gain are seen preparing the venison. Henry also prepared onion pie for the dinner that was held for purposes of the taping but also included the production staff and members of the community. After the dinner, local musicians performed for the guests. Eleanor Mailloux and Andrew Zimmern discuss the cooking method before the deer is removed from the pit. After taping in Helvetia, the production crew headed to Snowshoe Mountain for a segment on squirrels. Andrew Zimmern discusses his difficult time getting to Helvetia in this video.
